Mugen LSD?

I'm in the market for a LSD. I have the opportunity to pick up a brand new Mugen LSD for between $1000 - $1200. Does anyone have any information on these. How are they compared to a KAAZ or Quaife. Are they clutch type that require rebuilding?

Should I go for it? Any direction would be fantastic.

they are clutch type. all the japanese ones are, pretty much. did you see the discussion on them?

you are probably better off going KAAZ cause I'm sure you can get one for around 750-800.

i would think that kaaz might be a better choice being the parts for a rebuild are probably cheaper .. however i wonder if the mugen is a better quality unit and is worth the $200 extra.

Mugen stuff sucks... Reading the latest superstreet, the header comparison, Mugen performed the worst of all compared to like comptech, dc sports, etc...

I don't know why people think Mugen is so good. I hear Quaife LSD's are unquestionably the best, or even just the type-r's diff... you can pick those up for like 500-600 bucks if you want to.

i would be reluctant to say mugen's stuff sucks across the board. i would however say that typically their stuff isnt worth the price.

I have heard of no complaints with quaife.. however the reason you can buy type-r diffs is they are upgrading to quaife's.

i havent seen any definitive reasons to go with the quaife abd vs the clutch type. seems like they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. however all i was looking for was mugen lsd vs kaaz.

Kaaz makes almost all the Japanese aftermarket LSD, including the Mugen one. So why waste that extra money to get a name rahter than buying kaaz. I like mine, but it is VERY loud. So just expect a lot of noise and you will be fine. I was never warned about the noise or other drawbacks before i bought it. If you like quiet easy operation spend that money on a Quaife.

DREALGSR over at clubsi said that the mugen is made by Fujiken. ive never heard of them. i might end up with the quaife unless someone tells me the mugen kicks ass.

Buy the Quaife if yu are in the market and have the dough. I don't knw what kind of driving you are planning on doing but the Quaife can deal with any and all conditions + if you break it (How the hell would you go about that?) it does have a lifetime replacement warranty. I bought the ITR LSD cause I got a unbelievable deal on it and I know that I won't be doing any crazy Auto-Xing (airborne wheel is what seems to do the ITR LSD's in) so the ITR should last a long time. Good luck man and I think Larry at Endyn can get the the best deal on the Quaife at this time.

Personally i use a Quaife, but i heard someone say there were and are benefits to both types, gear driven and clutch type.... what are they ? Why would you want a clutch type?

The quiafe and handle everything ... and will take any amount of power you can give it... and if u happen to break it (unlikely, it's quite beefy)... it's covered..

After driving a friends car with the Quaiffe there are differences. It has a weird tendency to pull back and forth as it moves power from wheel to wheel in a straight line. I notice that mine is a bit more agressive in the corners as well. I would say drive both, or if noise is an issue just buy a gear type.
